VIRTUTOUR's virtual tours and are a way of presenting a representation of an environment in full 360° so that the viewer is able to see a complete wrap-around image. The viewer can interact with the image and control it with the mouse or keyboard. The virtual tours can be either full 360 images or partial 360 images where only a smaller portion of the image is able to be viewed. The advantages of the latter is it allows the company to only present to the viewer the particular part of the environment it wants the viewer to see.

VIRTUTOUR's virtual tours are designed using a system that comprises of a hi-end digital capture camera system. The method involves shooting a sequence of photos until all the scene has been captured. The amount of pictures taken depends on the focal length of the lens and the camera lens. After the photos have been taken a process known as stitching is then applied where the images are processed by software that identifies similar areas in the photos and then lines then up accordingly.The final stage is to output the resulting images to either a print copy or the internet where your customers are able to view and interact with them.

Panoramic Photography was the original term used for capturing images with elongated fields of view, It is also sometimes known as wide format photography. Usually an image with a filed of view the human eye may be termed panoramic. This generally means the image is at least twice as wide as it is high. The resulting images take the form of a wide strip. Depending on how the image has been photographed some panoramic images have aspect ratios between 4:1 and 10:1 covering fields of view of up to 360 degrees

Panoramic photography really came into its own when flexible film was invented in the late 19th century at which point lots of different kinds of cameras were starting to be used. In modern times though the term panoramic photography also refers to the Advanced Photo System (APS) cameras which use the word "panoramic" to define any print format with a wide aspect ratio and not just photos that have a wide field of view. In fact, a typical APS camera in its panoramic mode, where its zoom lens is at its shortest focal length of around 24 mm, has a field of view of only 65° which many experts would only classify as wide angle, not panoramic

360 Photography is similar to 360 Virtual Tours though it can be either a printed image or a virtual tour onthe internet. 360 photography implies that the whole of the vertical field of view is captured and not just the horizontal field of view.

Capturing this can cause problems for a number of reasons. Firstly the camera and lens have to be of a specific type such that data at the zenith of the image is captured. Certain combinations of lenses and cameras will provide this functionality though care has to be taken in choosing the correct equipment. Secondly stitching a full 360 image can also be problematic as getting points of the image to align can be difficult unless the camera lens and panoramic head are aligned properly during shooting the images.

Thirdly it is not usually possible to capture the image at the nadir point as the tripod will be in the way of the detail. One technique used to solve this problem is to use an image like a logo which can also help to reinforce a company's brand. A full 360 image also has a larger file size which will slow down loading speeds on the internet.
